The Destructive Power Of Bitterness & Unforgiveness

We all occasionally deal with bitterness and unforgiveness. Many times we become offended at or by others and bitterness can set in. After a while unforgiveness can root and before we know it, things are starting to take on a whole new form. Bitterness once it sets up residence in a persons heart, well it soon invites it's relatives which are frustrations, hatred and even deeply rooted angers. When these things come forth, we can soon find our character and personality becoming very bad. The end results is that our life and even health can be affected.

The answer. Forgive those who have wronged you and let go of the situation. Besides life is to precious and beautiful to allow bitterness to make it seem dark.

Forgiveness is the heartbeat of God, and we as God's children should clothe ourselves with forgiveness.

Forgiven By The Lord

We read about David, the sinner – ‘the thing that David had done displeased the Lord’(2 Samuel 11:27). We learn much about God’s dealings with sinners. In 2 Samuel 12:7, there is conviction of sin – ‘You are the man’. In 2 Samuel 12:13, we have confession of sin – ‘I have sinned against the Lord’ – and forgiveness of sin – ‘The Lord has taken away your sin.’ In 2 Samuel 12:20, there is the restoration of the sinner – ‘washed… anointed… changed… he went into the house of the Lord, and worshipped’. Throughout life, there are choices between our own will and the will of the Lord. Sometimes, we make wrong choices. We choose our own way rather than the Lord’s way. Throughout life, God is speaking to us. He is trying to get our attention. He wants it to be less of self and more of Him. He is leading us to say from the heart, ‘As for God, His way is perfect’(2 Samuel 22:31; Psalm 18:30). May we have this testimony: ‘I have kept the ways of the Lord; I have not done evil by turning from my God’(Psalm 18:21).

Jesus Christ Has Come ‘To Seek And To Save The Lost.’

Ezekiel 26:1-21
‘I am against you, O Tyre... You will be no more... You will never again be found...’(3,21). God’s Word is spoken against us: ‘There is no-one righteous... All have turned away... There is no-one who does good... All have sinned...’(Romans 3:10,12.23). God speaks His Word against us ‘so that every mouth may be silenced’(Romans 3:19). He wants us to to stop making excuses for ourselves. He wants us to start listening to what He has to say to us. For the city of Tyre, the situation was hopeless. For us, there is a Word of hope. Jesus Christ has come ‘to seek and to save the lost’. Jesus Christ has ‘died for our sins’(Luke 19:10; 1 Peter 3:18). ‘Through faith in Jesus Christ’, we hear God’s Word of forgiveness: ‘I will remember their sins no more’(Romans 3:22; Hebrews 8:12; 10:17).
