The Blessings Found In God's Word

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Blessings are found in God's Word.

No More Filthy Rags. Christ Has Clothed Us With His Garments Of Salvation.

Ruth was covered by the ‘garment’ of Boaz, her ‘kinsman-redeemer’ (Ruth 3:9). Jesus is our Kinsman-Redeemer. He has become one of us. He shares our ‘flesh and blood’, our ‘humanity’. Through His ‘suffering’ and ‘death’, we are brought to ‘glory’ (Hebrews 2:10-11,14-15). In Him, we ‘rejoice’: ‘He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness’(Isaiah 61:10). ‘Our righteous acts are like filthy rags’. Bring your ‘robes’ to Christ and let them be ‘washed’, ‘made white in the blood of the Lamb’ (Isaiah 64:6; Revelation 7:14). A ‘Moabitess’, Ruth was brought into the house of Israel (Ruth 4:10-11). In Christ, Jew and Gentile become one (Ephesians 2:11-18). Ruth played her part in leading us to Christ (Ruth 4:13-17; Matthew 1:1,5-6). May God help us to lead people to Christ.

Here's a wonderful new album release due out on November 23rd of this year. The Priests - Harmony , you will love the preview of Amazing Grace.

The Affects Of The News On Your Health

We all watch the news from time to time, and some make it a daily and evening part of their life. The news can be very informative, educational and keep you up to date on national and world events, from the weather to just about every other unfolding situation.

However can a daily and evening dose of the news have affects upon your health? I believe that it can because while there are happy news stories, there are a whole lot more depression news stories. In fact much of the news that we watch is depressing.

Personally, it would be so much nicer if there were balance with regards to the news and the stories they report on. But then again, if the new were more encouraging and reported on stories of encouragement and hope, most people wouldn't be glued to the news programs.

Let me encourage you to feed your inner man with something more fruitful than stories that sow depression.

Psalm 8 (Part Two) - Worshipping The Lord With Both Awe And Joy

We learn, from this Psalm, that God’s revelation and our self-understanding are intimately related. The revelation of God enlightens our self-understanding. A true understanding of ourselves cannot be achieved if God is disregarded. By faith, we see ourselves from God’s perspective. He is our Creator. We are His creatures. We learn, from this Psalm, that God is midful of us. He cares for us. He is gracious towards us. He loves us. How are we to respond to God, our Creator? – We come, with awe, before His majesty. We come, with joy, because of His love. From verses 5-8, we learn that human dignity is a gift of God. This isn’t a song of praise to man. It’s a song of praise to God – “Let him who boasts, boast of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:31). May God help us to worship Him with both awe and joy. As we rejoice in the Lord, let us not forget that He is the awesome God. As we bow before His majesty, let us not forget His love. Remembering how much He loves us, our hearts will be filled with true and lasting joy.

Psalm 8 (Part One) - The Glory Of The Lord In His Creation

This Psalm is a hymn of praise. It proclaims the glory of the Lord in His creation. The focus is not so much on the glories of nature. The great theme is the glory of Him who created nature. The Psalm begins and ends with the praise of God – O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens” (v. 1); “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (v. 9).
The whole Psalm is filled with the fear of God and joy in God. The words of verse 2  – “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies,   to silence the foe and the avenger” – are quoted in the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem – “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, ” ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’?” (Matthew 21:16). The reference to “children and infants” refers also to those who are withouit spiritual learning since they have not received spiritual instruction. How are we to receive real spiritual understanding? Each of us must become a babe in Christ by being humble before God, our Creator and Redeemer.  The way of humility is the way in which we come to a proper understanding of God and ourselves – When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,  which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” (vs. 3-4). In verse 3, the emphasis is upon God rather than nature. This leads us on, in verse 4, to the question, “What is man?” This question is grounded in the question, “Who is God?” – ” Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:18-19). How are we to come to a right understanding of ourselves? We must not come to God as know-it- alls. We are to come to Him as worshippers.

Psalm 8 - A Harvest Sermon (Part Six)

The world has its idea of what it means to be wise. The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7). If we are to use the fruits of our physical harvest, the results of our scientific and technological progress, in a way that leads to a  truly spiritual harvest, we must not forget God. We forget God at our peril. We lose sight of God, and we lose sight of all that is really important in life. We lose sight of God, and we lose sight of all that is truly wholesome. Putting God at the centre of our life – personal life, life in the family, life in the Church, life in society – , this is the way to a spiritual harvest which brings glory and praise to God. If, in today’s world, we are to enjoy a spiritual harvest which will be both satisfying to ourselves and glorifying to God, there are two things we must do. We must confess our sins. We must trust Christ for salvation. We look at our human situation – personally, locally, nationally and internationally – , and we say, “Apart from God, our situation is hopeless. Without Him, it will be nothing else but the downward slope.” We look then to the Cross of Christ, and we see that there is hope. If the Cross of Christ teaches us anything, it teaches us this, “No situation is too hopeless for the grace of God. However hopeless our situation may seem, it can be changed by the power and love of God.” There can still be a spiritual harvest, even in our difficult and distressing times, but it will not come unless we put Christ at the centre of our lives.

Psalm 8 - A Harvest Sermon (Part Five)

The Psalmist speaks about nature – the “heavens … the moon and the stars” (Psalm 8:3). He speaks also about dominion – “God has put all things under our feet.” In our generation, understanding of nature has increased enormously. Read scientific books. They are so much more sophisticated than books which were written even one generation ago. Our power to control our world has never been greater. We can do so much more than was even thought possible a generation ago. What has been going on in recent years? Some would say, “Progress, progress, progress, almost unlimited progress.” We must, however, be awkward and ask, “Is this the whole story? Has it been nothing but progress?” The honest answer must be, “Yes. There has been progress, but all is not well.” The world has become a very man-centred place. Many people have forgotten God. He has been left behind. So many have no time for Him. What must we do to stop our society going down the drain? What must we do to stop our society going to the dogs? We must give to God the place of highest honour.

Psalm 8 - A Harvest Sermon (Part Four)

Our attitude towards God should be a combination of two qualities which are often set against each other. They are fear and joy. There is to be the fear of the Lord. There is to be the joy of the Lord. We must never forget that God is our Creator, and we are His creatures. We must never forget that He is holy, and we have fallen far short of His holiness. We are “less than God” (Psalm 8:5). We must never forget this. We dare not take things into our own hands and try to “play God.” There needs to be the fear of the Lord. Without this, there will never be a harvest of righteousness. We must never forget that God loves us. He is the God of love, grace and mercy. The Psalmist tells us that this God, the God of love, grace and mercy, “crowns us with glory and honour” (Psalm 8:5). We must learn to rejoice in the Lord our God, the God of our salvation. There will only be a harvest of salvation where God’s peole are learning to rejoice in Him and give thanks for His salvation.

Psalm 8 - A Harvest Sermon (Part Three)

To understand the character of God, we need to go back to Genesis 1. God is our Creator. He created us because He loves us. To understand the state of the world today, we need to go back to Genesis 3. There, the choice is made – my will rather than God’s will, “I did it my way” rather than “Let go and let God have His wonderful way.” This what produces a harvest of unrighteousness. Reversing this trend will not be easy, but we must not lose hope. We must learn to say, with the Psalmist, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Thy Name in all the earth” (Psalm 8:1, 9). Unless God’s people are deeply committed to praising Him, we cannot even begin to hope for a real spiritual harvest in this generation.

Psalm 8 - A Harvest Sermon (Part Two)

What is happening in our time? – It’s the same thing that’s happened so many times before. It’s the same old story, a story which can be read in the pages of both the Old Testament and the New Testament. There is a great turning away from the truth. People only listen to what they want to hear. Everyone does what is right in his own eyes. Can this situation be turned around? It will not be easy, but we must not be discouraged. Our God is the living God. He is unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable in His love for us. He is mindful of us. We matter to Him. He is the God who forgives sin. He is the God who delights to show mercy. He is the God who longs to reveal His compassion to a generation that needs Him so much, but doesn’t know it.

Psalm 8 - A Harvest Sermon (Part One).

There is a physical harvest. There is a spiritual harvest. Can we expect a spiritual harvest in this generation? Or Must we give up hope and turn our backs to the wall?Ours is a time when nothing can be taken for granted. Many people are entirely dismissive of the whole idea that there is a God to whom we ought to offer our praise and thanksgiving. If ever there was a time for Christians to stand up and be counted as those who belong to Christ, this is it. If Christians remain silent, if Christians are ashamed of their Lord and Saviour, there will be a harvest, but it won’t be a godly harvest. It will be a harvest of unrighteousness.

Halloween, Trick Or Treat & The Bible

That time will soon be here and millions upon millions of children will celebrate Halloween. So what is this holiday and celebration all about? Is it simply fun, costumes, candy and children going from door to door? Or is there something else behind the holiday and celebration of Halloween? What is the History of Halloween?

As kids growing up, both I and my sister celebrated Halloween. Dressing up, the costumes, the trick or treat lanterns and yes, the candy was all a part of the celebration. It was fun and as with all children, we eagerly awaited that day.

Many years passed and when I became a Christian I did extensive studies online about Halloween and was quite shocked at what I found and read. I'm not going to go into details, other than to provide our readers with some links that will lead you to some informative sites about the history of Halloween like The Bible & Halloween. As Christian's and Christian parents, we must individually decide whether we should allow our children to participate in Halloween. Should Christians Celebrate Halloween

Career Changes, All Things Are Possible With God

With the economy fast changing and the search for jobs becoming more competitive, many people are seeking career changes. That's understandable. I have quite a few friends that have pursued career changes. They all say the change is challenging, however also exciting. However and as we all know, all things are possible with God and the Lord wants His kids to prosper.

If you feel like your stuck in the same old rut, consider making a change and looking into a exciting new career.

Remember, your best years are ahead of you, simply pursue them.

Good Old Mathematics

Have you seen it? The rally and comeback as today's stock market hit 10,000 plus. Hey great. So do you have more money in your savings, did you get a raise at your job, did your utility bills go down, did your medical costs go down, did your health insurance go down, auto insurance, etc. Did this rally and comeback place any more money in your pocket or get your bills closer to being paid off?

How about our senior citizens. Did this rally and come back help them? What about all the people that lost their homes and life savings. Did it help them? I wonder who will get the credit for this great comeback and rally?

Fuel for thought.

The Darkness Of The Heart

Whenever love, peace, joy, goodness and fruits that are sweet to the soul are absent, darkness can be found. Hatred, bitterness, cruelties, anger and a host of others emotions can usually be found where love, peace, joy and goodness doesn't exist. A heart that lacks love, peace, joy and goodness is a heart that needs to be touched by Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit so that Godly fruit will come forth.

There is a scripture that states "the mouth speaks forth the abundance of the heart". How true and usually you can tell what a person's heart is filled with by the words that they speak and the things they express.

Whenever you encounter someone that is struggling and the word of their mouth exposes the darkness of their heart. Pray for them and sow words of love and encouragement into them. Remember, we fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers and spiritual wickedness in high places. Become a deliverer, by sowing seeds of love, peace and joy.

Let your light shine brightly.

Some Very Wise & Powerful Words

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

The Destructive Power Of Bitterness & Unforgiveness

We all occasionally deal with bitterness and unforgiveness. Many times we become offended at or by others and bitterness can set in. After a while unforgiveness can root and before we know it, things are starting to take on a whole new form. Bitterness once it sets up residence in a persons heart, well it soon invites it's relatives which are frustrations, hatred and even deeply rooted angers. When these things come forth, we can soon find our character and personality becoming very bad. The end results is that our life and even health can be affected.

The answer. Forgive those who have wronged you and let go of the situation. Besides life is to precious and beautiful to allow bitterness to make it seem dark.

Forgiveness is the heartbeat of God, and we as God's children should clothe ourselves with forgiveness.

Iran, Missles, The Middle East, Our World

It seems that Iran has tested its longest range missiles today. News reports say that Iran warned that they can reach any place that threatens thier country to including Israel, parts of Europe and some U.S. military bases in the Mideast. It seems that Iran continues to press forward with it's missles, and nuclear desires.

I'm starting to wonder how much longer Israel, the United States and the rest of the world are going to put up with this. I sure hope that we all don't awaken one morning to news reports that somethings gone terribly wrong. However ....

Looking Forward To The Coming Of Christ The King.

‘There before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven… His Kingdom is one that will never be destroyed’ (Daniel 7:13-14). These words point us to Christ’s description of His Second Coming, the Coming of His Kingdom: ‘They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory’ (Matthew 24:30). In Revelation 1:7, we have another echo of Daniel’s ‘vision’: ‘Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him’. ‘Lo! He comes, with clouds descending… Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee, high on Thine eternal throne; Saviour, take the power and glory, claim the Kingdom for Thine own. O come quickly! O come quickly! O come quickly! Alleluia! Come, Lord, come!’(Church Hymnary, 316).

Making The Most In Difficult Seasons

Since my wife was released from the hospital back in December of 2008, life has changed. She's in recovery from a virus that attacked her heart muscle and almost took her life. The end result was being diagnosed with heart failure as the damage to her heart left her heart only pumping at 20%. Since then the numbers have improved and by June of 2009 her heart was pumping at 33%. We will know more after her next doctors visit when further tests will be performed.

As the months have passed, as a family we have gone through many changes. The 1st three months after her illness were very difficult. By June of this year things had improved somewhat and she seems to be getting better and better all the time. Still with that said, life and the things we do have changed as my wife can tire very easily and have difficulties breathing.

Yet every Saturday night as a family we attend Saturday evening services and go out to eat. Then on Sunday we again attend services and afterwords go out to lunch. We look forward to our weekend, church and going out to eat. We've also learned to be thankful for our weekends.

It's not how much you do, where you go, or how exciting it is. It's the simplicity of spending time together as a family.

Sharing Fellowship With Others

Many times we apply the word fellowship only to church, church gatherings and things that have to do with church. However, the simplicity of sharing lunch with a friend or even a co worker is sharing fellowship. Just imagine all the opportunities that arise daily where we can share fellowship with others. To simply be a friend to someone else and allow the love of Christ to shine through us.

Friends are important. Companionship is important. We all need others in our life to hang around with, to share with and yes even to communicate our problems with. Sometimes a listening ear can make all the difference in the world. Take some time and be a friend to someone in need. Share fellowship with them and be a blessing to them.

Learning From Our Children, While Teaching Them About Life

My daughter will be turning 5 years old this December. Oh how fast she has grown. It seems like just yesterday she was learning to walk and here we are already. She's such a blessing from God, so full of life, has way too much energy and just a barrel of fun to be around. Truly, I have been blessed beyond measure.

Over these last almost five years I have watched her grow and mature in ways that leave me in awe. She's bright, creative, and loves to explore. Of course we have those occasional moments as do all parents. However that's when I must be a father in all situations. That's when I must apply love in even greater measures. Simply through love to help her understand rights and wrongs and mature with character. Sometimes, in the end she teaches me things, like how to love life from a child like perspective. She has this thing that when I get too serious, she makes me laugh. Too funny!

It is good to learn from our children while teaching them about life.

A World Of Light And Darkness

Ouch! Life is not always filled with joy. Sometimes life is filled with pain, loss and very difficult times. Just look around our world, or the community that you live in. Just watch the evening news or listen to the local radio station. Life can just seem hard and unfair at times.

What a world we live in. There is beauty and there is heartache. There is light and there is darkness. There is love and there is hatred. For everything pure and lovely, there is almost a complete opposite. Yet this is our world.

Together, we can all make a difference, one day, and one life at a time.

Building The House On Sure Foundation

Jesus spoke of the man who built his house on solid foundation vs. the man that built his house on sand. One was built on rock solid foundation, while the other was not. Jesus went on to say that the house built on the solid foundation could withstand difficult times, that the winds could blew and the house would remain, but that the house built on sand would not stand and great would be the fall of it. Just imagine the endless situations and circumstances that this application could apply to.

Sometimes it's possible to start out on solid foundation and slowly be moved to unstable foundation. One way for this to happen is through compromise. We all occasionally compromise, however if we continue to walk in compromise it can cause a shift and that shift can lead to unstable grounds.

When this happens, we must examine situations, ourselves, and the path that we have taken. For it's easy to get off course in today's world.

There are blessings found in the straight and narrow.

Guard Your Heart, Mind & Ears

As Christian's and especially babes in Christ. We must always be careful of what we are chewing on. If it doesn't line up with God's Word, we might just find that we are chewing on meat that is not from God. That's why it's so important to read and study God's Word. Otherwise we might find ourselves receiving another gospel, and following the teachings of men that are not scriptural.

There are blessings in reading, studying and understanding God's Word.

Examining Our Heart Through The Words We Speak

It is written that out of the mouth comes forth the abundance of the heart. So, what does that say about the heart? In such cases when angers are present, uncontrollable angers, bitterness, and words that are the fruit of such. What is in the heart? In the heart filled with peace, grace, mercy, compassion, love and the fruits of the Spirit. Is the heart overflowing with the love of Christ?

The Dangers Of Jealousy

Jealousy burns like fire devouring our character. When the flames of jealousy burn hot, rage is born. When rage is born, murder comes forth from the heart. Evil and wicked thoughts come forth and the end of jealousy can be very destructive to the soul and the lives of others.

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

The Flood That Can Bring Destruction

We all occasionally encounter anger. Anger is one of the ways we express many different emotions. That is to say that under the anger can be a variety of feelings and emotions. Yet when anger becomes rage and enters into those uncontrollable stages, that anger is dangerous and can bring destruction to all that experience it. Un controllable anger can destroy a home, a family, a marriage and even close friendships. It is like a flood that overtakes people and their lives.

Here are some proverbs on anger: Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife. He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

When Faith Becomes Thin

There are times when our faith comes under attack. Times when we find discouragement overtaking us. No one can escape those occasional times that test everything within us. Hopefully all the seeds that have been sown into our life have fallen on good ground, because it is those seeds that help us to endure difficult times. Let me encourage you to hold fast your faith. To recall and bring to memory all the ways that God has increased your faith in times past. Within such, you will begin to again focus on the very things that have seen you through the seasons of the past.

Blessings are found when we remember all that God has done for us.

Spiritual Snakes

Have you ever seen a swarm of snakes. Maybe as a child out exploring or in a movie on television. Most people dislike snakes and the thought of having 100's of snakes around them could send their blood pressure through the sky. Now picture the unseen, the spiritual realm and just imagine 100's of spiritual snakes running around your home creating problems with the ability to inflict frustrations, irritations, anger, divisions, rage, emotional, mental and physical problems. Just imagine if the very forces of darkness and spiritual wickedness were unleashed against you and your family. What would be you defense against these unseen spiritual forces?

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The Lord's prayer:

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

The Words Of Peter The Apostle

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Imagine those days.

Shouldn't Things Be Simple

Every church that I have ever attended had a prayer ministry. Prayer is one of the heart beats of church. Prayer is important, and Jesus said "My House shall be called a house of prayer". There are many scriptures in the Bible that speak of prayer from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelations. There are many accounts of Christ praying, the Apostles praying, and also many accounts within the old testament about prayer.

Prayer in many ways is the lifeline of our communication with God. Through prayer we communicate with God, make our requests known to Him, enter into His presence and stand the gap as watchmen for others. It is good to pray for others. In fact, it is a humble privilege to pray for others.

In the book of Acts prayer and the laying on of hands are mentioned in various sections of scripture. In many church's today prayer and the laying on of hands is actively pursued and the ministry of the Holy Spirit flows freely.

Actually God made prayer very simple. It doesn't take some spiritual giant to pray for people. It just takes a willing vessel to step out in faith and allow the Holy Spirit to be the Holy Spirit. It's when fear, lack of faith, a religious spirit, the precepts of men and having a good church service show gets in the way and hinders the Holy Spirit, that prayer ministries become inaffective. That well scripted situations.

It amazes me how we sometimes turn the Kingdom of God into this well micro managed process as if we could add something to it. It amazes me how we sometimes take the simplest of things and make them difficult and within that process diminish the power of such.

I somehow don't think Jesus had that in mind.

An Invitation

Sometimes We Need To Return To The Basics

Many times as the seasons go by, we can get off course. We soon forget the very reasons, plans and purposes that were the seeds of something good and take on new grounds that we were never called to pioneer. I call that appetites gone wild and it can happen to the best of us. Other times our appetite and desires just out do us and draw us into other areas that we are not called to venture into or not yet strong enough to enter into.

I think this happens with church's too many times. They start off small very much like walking on a straight and narrow sidewalk only to eventually walk on a very broad path seeking growth. Well, growth is good, however if you grow to soon, too fast and don't put things into perspective along the way, that growth can bury you. I've often wondered in the scriptures where Jesus said "If a man have a hundred sheep", how that might apply to a Church or congregation of thousands. Why didn't Jesus say "If a man have 1,000 sheep or 2,000 sheep?".

My point being. Sometimes in the process and desire of growth the members can suffer. Sometimes in the process and desire for growth it's easy to neglect the very members that helped plant the whole situation and they start leaving. Personally, I'd rather have a one faithful member of 10 years, than flocks of new ones that just come and go. Besides what are the blessings when the sheep start scattering.

I love attending church, corporate worship and all the wonderful expressions that blossom at church. Yet I have never forgotten the gatherings that many of us attended in a home each and every Monday night. You see, those were very special times.

Church Membership

I'm sure that you've heard that term many times. Church membership. Sometimes I think that church membership becomes almost more important than being a member of the body of Christ. You might say, how so, as they are the same. Consider this. Church's have many aspects beyond members. There are rents, mortgages, building overheads, utility bills, insurance, payrolls and many other financial responsibilities that make up a church. Many times these responsibilities become almost overwhelming. Many times these financial responsibilities dictate situations and circumstances. Many times these financial responsibilities become the reason and need for more members. The sad part is that when these very financial matters and responsibilities that also make up church become overwhelming they create compromise and can lead a congregation down a road and path that God never called them into. You see, the body of Christ was never meant to be a business, nor be held in bondage to financial problems. The church is not meant to function in debt and always facing financial problems.

For God is not a God of bondage and we are called to be good stewards.

"Love Is God" Or "God Is Love"?

Some people begin with their own idea of “love” and then say, “That’s what God is like.” They may dip into the Bible, reading their favourite passages. They will not take the trouble and make the time for reading the whole Bible. They say, “Why bother putting a lot of time and effort into studying the Bible. We already know what God is like.” They quote the words, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). What they really mean is, “Love is God.” When the Bible says, “God is love”, it doesn’t encourage us to start from our own idea of “love.” It encourages us to begin with God. We learn of Him as we read His Word. As we learn of His love, we learn that it is a holy love. God’s love is a holy love because God is a holy God. The difference between “love is God” and “God is love” cannot be overemphasized. To say “All you need is love. Love is all you need” is not the same as saying, “We need God.” When we say, “We need God”, we will not say, “all you need is love.” We will say, “We need God’s love and we also need His holiness.” Where do we learn of both God’s love and His holiness? – It’s from His Word that we learn of His holy love. We bow before Him in worship, echoing the words of Isaiah 6:3 – “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord … ” We rejoice in the wonder of His love, giving thanks for the great words of Isaiah 6:7 – “Your sin is forgiven.”

The Wise Man That Had Ears To Hear

Just imagine if your house was not built on concrete, but rather sand. Things could become very unstable at any given time. A earthquake could occur, or a winter storm. There could be a flood, or even a mudslide. The results could be very bad. Just imagine all the potential possibilities for disaster if your house was built on sand. Now imagine your life being built on sand.

Here are the words of Jesus on the matter. Life changing words that are over 2,000 years old, yet eternal.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Thank God For Worship

I love music. Over the years and before becoming a Christian, I listened to various types of music. From easy listening to that good old rock and roll. Then the days and seasons came when I was introduced to praise and worship music through attending a local church. I came to love praise and worship music and over the years have put together quite a collection of various artists and songs.

More importantly something happened deep inside of me through the years of not just listening to praise and worship music, but experiencing it. You might ask what that means? Well what I learned is that when you worship the Lord God through praise and worship from the depths of your heart, God shows up, heaven comes to earth and you experience God's love and presence in great abundance.

You see, God planned it that way. There is such a wonderful and beautiful fellowship that takes place when one seeks the Lord through praise and worship. Heaven truly comes to earth. The very sweetness of God filled with love and compassion. Just imagine God, inhabitting your very praises !

Make That Call, Send That Letter

Is there someone that you've lost contact with? Maybe a old high school friend, maybe a old co worker, maybe a relative or close close family member? We all get busy and the freeway of life just seems to consume our time. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, best friends and people that we've spent time with just seem to fall onto the back burners of our life. Many times we are reminded of those people in thought. We make plans to contact them, but life's freeway once again consumes us. Maybe the Holy Spirit is putting someone on your heart right now. Take time and make that call. You just might put a smile on some one's face.

Blessings, in Christ.

We All, Can Make A Difference

Remember, we all can make a difference. In our homes, in our communities, with our families, on the job and at every corner. Each one of us has something to add to our world to make it a better place. Take time and make time to make a difference, a positive difference in the lives of others. Be a blessing to others and encourage them with your love and friendship.

The Cold Wet Upcoming Winter

They say that we are in for a cold wet winter this year. No doubt that we could use some rain here in California. It's been a hot summer and last year we didn't see a lot of rain fall. El Nino they say is the season to come with lots of rain. After all the recent fires over the last two years, that means potential mud slides and all sorts of problems. But then again, the weather man has been known to prophesy some false weather reports. Even so, be prepared for a wonderful wet rainy winter. Keep your eye's and prayers on the midwest and the east coast. Especially where the tornado's hit and the hurricanes come sliding in. Yes, times are changing, the seasons are changing and nature is calling out.

Remember, regardless of the seasons and what they bring. God's loves you and His love is eternal and never changing.
Blessings, in the love of God.

Jesus Christ Is The Only Way Out Of Judgment. He Is The Only Way Into Salvation.

Unbelievers have ridiculed “fire and brimstone” preaching. We cannot, however, allow their scornful attitude to lead us to dismiss “fire and brimstone” preaching. We dare not say that such preaching belongs to the past. We must note that the Bible preaches “fire and brimstone.” We must ask, “How does the Bible preach “fire and brimstone”?” The fact that the Bible preaches “fire and brimstone” means that this emphasis on divine judgment must not be excluded from our preaching in today’s world. The way that the Bible preaches “fire and brimstone” teaches us that we must always preach with a view to leading men and women to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Jesus Christ is the only way out of judgment. Jesus Christ is the only way into salvation. We hear the Gospel. we hear its promise. We hear its warning. The Gospel places us at a cross-roads. Each of us must decide. We must come to Christ. We must trust Him as our Saviour. We must come to Him, believing that He died on the Cross for us. We must come to Him and receive His free gift of the forgivenss of our sins. It is only through faith in Him that we will come to know, for ourselves, the truth of the final words of Psalm 11: “upright men will see His face” (verse 7).

-----

God’s Way of Salvation (Psalm 11)

We Have The Great Promise Of The Gospel ... There Is Also The Strong Warning Of The Gospel.

We have the great promise of the Gospel. In Christ, there is full salvation for all who come to God through Him. Alongside this great promise, there is also the strong warning of the Gospel. We read the solemn words of Psalm 11:6 – “On the wicked he will rain fire and brimstone; a scorching wind will be their lot” “Fire and brimstone” – What are we to say about this? We must note that Psalm 11 doesn’t end with “fire and brimstone.” It ends with the words: “upright men will see His face” (Psalm 11:7). God doesn’t want to leave us where He finds us. He doesn’t want to leave us trembling in fear of “fire and brimstone.” He speaks to us of these things so that we might see our need of the Saviour. He speaks to us of these things so that we might”flee from the wrath to come” (Luke 3:7). He speaks to us of these things so that we might find our way to the Cross of Christ. He speaks to us of these things so that we might learn to confess our sins and receive God’s forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
-----

God’s Way of Salvation (Psalm 11)

God's Way Of Salvation

Our faith is built on a secure foundation. How do we know this? – “The LORD is on His heavenly throne” (Psalm 11:4). Knowing that the Lord is King, we are assured that God’s way of salvation is the one way of salvation. Salvation is by grace through faith. This salvation is centred on Jesus Christ. It is in Jesus Christ that we find the grace of God. It is Jesus Christ in whom we put our trust. Jesus Christ is God’s way of salvation. Through Jesus Christ, we have received salvation. There is no other way of salvation. God’s Kingship is revealed in His way of salvation. There is only way of salvation. It is God’s way of salvation. By grace through faith – This is God’s way of salvation. When we refuse to accept God’s way of salvation, we refuse to acknowledge His Kingship. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). We dare not attempt to dispute this point with God. Who are we to argue with God? We may attempt to save ourselves. We will not succeed. When we attempt to save ourselves, God looks upon us and He sees our sin. In ourselves, we are not “the righteous.” We may think that we are “righteous.” In God’s eyes, we are “the wicked.” This is the truth concerning every one of us: “There is no one righteous, not even one … all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:10, 23). There is only one way in which “the wicked” can become “the righteous.” We must come to the God of perfect holiness through faith in Jesus Christ. We must remember that “Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). This is God’s way of salvation. We don’t tell God that He has to save us because we think that we have earned the right to be saved. He tells us that we are sinners. He tells us that we need to be saved. He tells us that “Jesus Christ is able to save to the uttermost completely those who come to God through Him” (Hebrews 7:25).

-----

God’s Way of Salvation (Psalm 11)

Christ Invites Us To "Come" ... (Revelation 6:1-7:17)

Christ invites us to ‘come’ (6:1,3,5,7) - and look at things through His eyes. With Him, we look at earth. With Him, we look at heaven. Troubled world, tremendous worship - These are the things we see when we look through the eyes of our Lord jesus Christ. Our world is deeply troubled. Heaven’s worship is absolutely tremendous. Of all our many ‘troubles’, the greatest is this: We are sinners, and none of us ‘can stand’ before ‘the face of Him who sits on the throne’. Our earthly ‘troubles’ are nothing compared with this! There is hope. There is a way of ‘salvation’. We can be saved through ‘the blood of the Lamb’. If, however, we turn from Him - ‘the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world’ - there will be no hope. We will face ‘the wrath of the Lamb’ (4:16-17; 5:10,14; John 1:29). Will you be saved - or lost?

Words That Can Change Your Life

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Many Are Called & Few Are Chosen

I'm sure that you have heard those words before. Many are called and few are chosen. I am reminded of the two paths, one being straight and narrow and the other being wide and broad, that many go within.

Many take the wide and broad path that leads to destruction, yet few take the straight and narrow. Interesting concept, two paths with one leading to eternal life.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Seek Him and find, knock and the door will be opened, for all who truly call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Reaching Out With The Good News Of Jesus Christ

‘Reconciled’ to God through Christ, we have received ‘the ministry of reconciliation.’ Saved by Him, we are to ‘work with Him.’ We are ‘not to accept the grace of God in vain’ by living for ourselves. We are to be ‘ambassadors for Christ.’ We must proclaim the urgent message of salvation - ‘now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation.’ We must call men and women to respond to God’s message of salvation: ‘Be reconciled to God’ (2 Corinthians 5:18-6:2). If we are to be effective ‘ambassadors for Christ’, we must dedicate our lives to Him: ‘Let us cleanse ourselves… and make holiness perfect in the fear of God’(2 Corinthians 7:1). Without this heartfelt commitment to godly living, we cannot really serve the Lord at all. Our wrong lives will drown out our ‘right’ words. We need true lives as well as ‘true’ words.

These Signs Shall Follow Them That Believe

Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

The Power, The Victory, The Thanksgiving

The Power - "the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power" (1 Samuel 16:13).
The Victory - "I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty ... the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands" (1 Samuel 17:45, 47).
The Thanksgiving - "I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me" (Psalm 30:1).

Forgiven By The Lord

We read about David, the sinner – ‘the thing that David had done displeased the Lord’(2 Samuel 11:27). We learn much about God’s dealings with sinners. In 2 Samuel 12:7, there is conviction of sin – ‘You are the man’. In 2 Samuel 12:13, we have confession of sin – ‘I have sinned against the Lord’ – and forgiveness of sin – ‘The Lord has taken away your sin.’ In 2 Samuel 12:20, there is the restoration of the sinner – ‘washed… anointed… changed… he went into the house of the Lord, and worshipped’. Throughout life, there are choices between our own will and the will of the Lord. Sometimes, we make wrong choices. We choose our own way rather than the Lord’s way. Throughout life, God is speaking to us. He is trying to get our attention. He wants it to be less of self and more of Him. He is leading us to say from the heart, ‘As for God, His way is perfect’(2 Samuel 22:31; Psalm 18:30). May we have this testimony: ‘I have kept the ways of the Lord; I have not done evil by turning from my God’(Psalm 18:21).

Pass The Message On.

There are some things that are worth repeating! The story of God’s amazing grace is worth repeating over and over again – ‘Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress’(Psalm 107:6, 13, 19, 28). The call to praise the Lord is also something we need to hear again and again – ‘Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men’(Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31). Let us ‘consider the great love of the Lord.’ Let us ‘give thanks to the Lord’ (Psalm 107:43, 1). ‘The great love of God is revealed in the Son, who came to this earth to redeem every one. That love, like a stream flowing clear to the sea, makes clean every heart that from sin would be free… It’s yours, it is ours, O how lavishly given! The pearl of great price, and the treasure of heaven!’

We Have The Victory I Christ.

‘I will give thanks to the Lord…’(Psalm 9:1-2). The enemy is defeated (Psalm 9:3-6). ‘The Lord sits enthroned for ever’(Psalm 9:7). ‘The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble’(Psalm 9:9). What an encouraging Psalm this is: We have the victory in Christ. Nevertheless, it is not easy when we face determined opposition from the enemies of Christ and His Gospel: ‘Behold what I suffer from those that hate me’(Psalm 9:13). In this situation, we must call upon the Lord: ‘Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail’(Psalm 9:19). Though the conflict is raging all around, we must – taking our stand in Christ – declare God’s praises and rejoice in His salvation (Psalm 9:14). ‘The Lord dwells in Zion’(Psalm 9:11): ‘Blest inhabitants of Zion, Washed in the Redeemer’s blood’, may we always say, ‘Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Thy Name.’

The Enemy Is Defeated.

David defeats Goliath. This is not only a story about David and Goliath. It is about the Israelites and the Philistines. It is about ‘God’ and the ‘gods’(1 Samuel 17:43, 46). Victory comes from the Lord. It is given by grace. It is received by faith (47). Notice the contrast between the attitude of Saul – unbelief -and the attitude of David – faith (1 Samuel 17:33, 37). Unbelief is all around us. Don’t be pulled into it. Don’t forget God. Remember what He has done for you and thank Him that He will not fail you now (1 Samuel 17:37). Put off the armour provided by men. ‘Put on the whole armour of God’(1 Samuel 17:38-40; Ephesians 6:11). We will not win the victory if we fight in our own strength. We must draw our strength from the Lord. He helps us. We are ‘strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man’(Psalm 121:2; Psalm 124:8; Ephesians 3:16).

World Events, Diplomacy

It seems that things are quieting around the world, or maybe it's just that the news reports and climates are changing and shifting.

Iraq, Iran, Israel, The Palestinian Situation, Terrorism, well it all seems to be quieting with North Korea taking center page. Of course there's global warming, the economy, home foreclosures, banking failures, state economic problems coupled with so many other situations like little fires just waiting for someone to toss some petrol on.

Meanwhile change is on the horizon with a late addition being America is no longer a Christian nation as we seek peace with the Middle East and the Muslim nations. Great new approach at diplomacy.

Have you ever seen that movie with Dustin Hoffman "Wag The Dogs Tail". It's really a good movie.

Expanding Through Prayers Of Faith

A Powerful Prayer

Eph 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Eph 3:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Eph 3:18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

Eph 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

It makes depressing reading – a lot of bad news from the north (1 Kings 14:16), a lot of bad news from the south (1 Kings 14:22). Many people wondered, ‘Will there be peace in my lifetime?’. Sadly, the hostilities continued for a very long time (15:6). Were there no glimmers of hope? Was there no light at the end of the tunnel? Had God given up on the situation? There is a Word of hope: ‘The Lord will raise up for Himself a king…’ (1 Kings 14:14). There is good news. God is raising up ‘an army of ordinary people, a kingdom where love is the key’. What part can God’s ‘ordinary people’ play in His extraordinary purpose? – A very important part: ‘The Church is here for healing of the nations’ (Songs of Fellowship, 20, 216). Can there be healing? Yes! – if there is love. Don’t give up hope: ‘May the God of hope…’(Romans 15:13)!

Buy Gold

Rev 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Rev 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

None Greater

Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Mar 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

"Thanks Be To God For His Indescribable Gift."

We may face difficult circumstances. We may experience much suffering. In all of this there is one thing we must never forget: ‘God… comforts the downcast’(2 Corinthians 7:6). He lifts us up when we are down. He enables us to ‘excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, in love, in giving’(2 Corinthians 8:7). How are we to excel in everything? We must ‘give ourselves to the Lord’(2 Corinthians 8:5). Everything else flows from this. We are to ‘give ourselves in devoted service to others’(2 Corinthians 7:12; 2 Corinthians 8:4-5). Where does this spirit of ‘rich generosity’ come from? It comes from God, from ‘the grace that God has given’ to us (2 Corinthians 8:1-2). It comes to us as we give ourselves to Him. Before we can ‘excel in this grace of giving’, we must receive ‘from His fullness, grace upon grace’(2 Corinthians 8:7; John 1:16). How are we to be ‘cheerful’ in giving ourselves to the Lord (2 Corinthians 9:7)? How are we to be confident that ‘God is able to provide us with every blessing in abundance’(2 Corinthians 9:8)? Before we ever think of giving ourselves to God, we must look at all He has given to us. We look away from ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ: ‘You know the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ…’(2 Corinthians 8:9). We look at Him and we say, in our hearts, ‘Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!’(2 Corinthians 9:15). Can our giving to Him even begin to compare with His giving to us? We give to Him as those who have first received from Him. In his giving, we see His love. Our giving expresses our love, our response to His love: ‘We love because He first loved us’(1 John 4:19). Rejoice in His love. Thank Him - for ‘every blessing in abundance’!
